Board Update on Upcoming Mission Trip

It has been several months, since the initial earthquake shook the lives of the people in Haiti.  The initial impact of the World rushing to provide aid was astonishing and wonderful.  Now two months later, the attention to this country’s dilemma has seemed to disappear again.  It is no longer on the front pages of the newspaper or the headlines of many news casts.  However the needs of the people in Haiti have not disappeared.

On March 18 – 23, several board members from Mission to Haiti, along with Adele Newton from 91.5 The Beat Radio Station and Veneta Anand from STIMMA (Short Term International Medical Missions Abroad) travel to undertake a short relief trip to Haiti.  The purpose of this trip is to meet with Pastor Charles and Bisson to obtain information on the needs of the children, the schools and the community that is supported by Mission to Haiti.  This is a different trip since we will be joined by two other partner groups, who have expressed interest in working with Mission to Haiti Canada in aspiring to create and nurture opportunities for the people in Haiti.

We are excited about the involvement of Corus Entertainment Inc. for allowing Adele to join our trip.  She will be reporting back daily to the radio station as well as to other media outlets involved in Corus Entertainment Inc. about the conditions in Haiti and the work being done by Mission to Haiti Canada to meet the needs of the impoverished and displaced Haitians. We will be sending updates to the Mission to Haiti Blog each evening and as well Adele’s blog will be updated with videos, pictures and live interviews of our travels.  You can get onto her blog at this address, http://www.915thebeat.com/Blog/Adele/home.aspx.  Also listen to Adele’s morning show as she informs the listening audience about Haiti from now until we leave on Thursday morning.

Our continued involvement with STIMMA (http://www.stimma.org) has resulted in Veneta also joining our trip.  She will be looking at the way that MTH Canada undertakes their medical missions to provide assistance and input into our mission.  Her association with Shoppers Drug Mart (Bridgeport and Weber) was significant in providing early medication relief for our trip in January 2010 after the quake.  She also has experience with her organize with regard to health education which is a future endeavour of Mission to Haiti Canada.

As a group, we will be meeting with Pastor Charles and Bisson during our time there to co-ordinate the following:

  • Find out about the status of the schools.
  • Find out about the status of our sponsored children and as well as meeting with some of their families.
  • Look at how our short term and long term mission goals can be implemented with the Haitians
  • Do a food distribution on the Saturday at Christa College.
  • Investigate the condition of Christa College school facility.
  • Set up the work and itinerary for the 29 people of our April relief trip.
  • Bring the tents and tarps and some crutches with us to distribute.

We ask for the continued prayer of the supporters of Mission to Haiti Canada, since the country and the people have been changed since January 12, 2010.

We ask for travelling mercies as we seek to help our friends in Haiti during this time.

Blessings

The Board
