We have all arrived safe and sound in Haiti and are thankful for the great weather travelling from Toronto to Haiti via Miami. There are 21 team members on this trip from back home, coming together from as far as Windsor, Blyth and Cambridge. We had no major issues going through customs with all the packed totes – a minor ripple with one bag, but everyone made the flight on time. We arrived in Port au Prince shortly after 5:00 pm and were in and out of customs and the airport, with everything and everyone loaded in tap taps (Haiti’s version of taxies) and on the road to Cabaret by 6:30 where the kitchen ladies had a meal of stew and salad waiting for us. Everyone was hungry and dove right in as it had been a long day – some starting on the road as early as 1:30 am to be at the airport for 3:30. After supper we spent a bit of time unpacking totes and sorting and storing everything in preparation for tomorrow. A medical clinic will be held Wednesday so a lot of medical supplies and medications need to be counted and ready for the clinics. Everyone was grateful that the ladies shower and washroom facilities were fixed and were able to be used.

All in all – a great day travelling with new friendships made along the way – some work done at camp, and a nice cool shower to end the day. We have 5 newbies this year and we hope they have a great team experience with everyone and we look forward to hearing their stories as the days unfold. After a (hopefully) good night’s sleep we will begin a new day tomorrow.

Hi MTH Team. So glad you had a good travelling day. I know what you mean about enjoying your first meal upon arrival, and the great refreshing cool shower. Now that you are all ready to work hard and serve the wonderful Haitian people, remember that those of us at home are thinking of you and praying for you, that God will equip you with everything you need, plus more than you expect. I will be imagining myself working in the medical clinics with you…
