A significant series of earthquakes has hit the nation of Haiti with catastrophic effects. On January 12, 2010 at 5pm an earthquake magnitude 7.0 centred about 13 miles from the capital of Port-au-Prince struck with devastating consequences. A series of aftershocks have followed which has multiplied the damage and casualties. Communication and travel are serious issues as most cellphone towers have been disabled and roadways are blocked with major debris. Most of the buildings in Port-au-Prince have collapsed with major loss of life and injury; it currently resembles a warzone. We have been able to make contact with Pastor Charles and he and his family are safe at the campus in Messailler. Octavius and his son were seriously injured as their house collapsed with them in it; please pray for God’s healing hand to work within them. We have not yet been able to make contact with other friends there; please pray for their safety at this time. There is currently a team staying in Cazeau with MTH USA and there has been some contact made with them. The camp there has sustained minor damage and they are safe, but understandably are very overwhelmed with the current situation as many people have arrived at their camp looking for help. Their medicals supplies have run out and we have made available our existing supplies for their use. Please pray for their safety and for God to give them the ability to use every gift they have to safe lives, provide comfort, and witness in spite of this situation. Check your local news outlet for updated information.
The board of MTH Canada is conferring at this point in time to make a decision regarding our upcoming mission trip. The decision on whether to go or not go should be made in the next 24-48 hours and we will let you know of this decision as soon as it is made. Factors being considered include the functioning of the airport as commercial airlines are currently not making flights to Haiti. Also, safety for the group given the current situation is primary. Access to diesel fuel to run the generator, clean drinking water and ability to travel and be effective in our provision of help and/or care are being assessed. Please pray for clarity in God’s will to help in this decision.

It must be very hard to make a decision but I feel that if we can help, let’s go and help the Haitian people cope with the earthquake disaster.
I completely agree with you Lisa, but the airline has made the decision for us.
