Hello from Canada!

We have all safely arrived home from an amazing trip to Haiti where as a team we were able to lend our hands and hearts to the Haitian people. We are so blessed to have been able to make this journey together! It is nice though, to be home and in our own beds! :)

Thank you to everyone who shared their photo cards (...)

Thursday January 22nd, 2015

Today we headed to Kaliko for a day of rest. We swam, snorkeled, went boating, played volleyball and relaxed around the pool. We also enjoyed a wonderful lunch buffet!

Tonight we will pack our belongings and pack up the remainder of our camp supplies. After supper we will go outside and sit around in a circle and share something of our experience from being here in Haiti.
Tomorrow morning we fly home … leaving behind this country, it’s (...)

Humility – Compassion and Empathy … care about others as you would care for yourself.

Our precious time here in Haiti is soon coming to an end. Wednesday was our last full day for all the teams to accomplish the goals we had strived for. Our team came together and bonded well on this trip, at work and at play! … the construction crew working together in the hot sun each day to complete the church and school rooms in Montrois … the medical team (...)

A special treat for our readers today …. this blog was written by one of our nurses, Cheryl Wilts. A view of Haiti through her eyes.

Haiti from the Eyes of a Canadian Nurse

The small, crowded room is bursting with noise. Nearby traffic, crying infants and boisterous school children can be heard among the chaos. It’s only early morning, and already sweat is dripping down our backs. In our makeshift clinic, dozens of patients calmly wait to be seen. As a young mother (...)

It’s Monday! Back to work day! We had cinnamon buns and fruit for breakfast this morning to kick start our day. Today was a day where we also all used our gifts from God to help people in some way. Construction headed back to Montrois with a full squad ready for some hard work in the hot sun! They have one more support wall to frame and are expecting to be able to pour cement Wednesday! We all can’t wait to see pics of it when it is done! Medical was off (...)

Wash Wash Wash! Rinse Rinse Rinse!

Today was a day of cleansing as we attended church with our Haitian friends and joined in singing hymns with their talented choir. The service was beautiful and energizing with Pastor Charles giving the sermon in both Creole and English for our benefit. He told us that God had brought us all together as brothers and sisters to do his work. We were the guests of honour seated in the centre of the church with beautifully (...)

Today was a day of rest – riding the bus, shopping and sightseeing. We were all up early to be on the road and into Port au Prince for 9:00. The bus held 30 people, and every seat was taken! Travelling the roads in Haiti is definitely a different kind of experience! Whoever has the largest or loudest vehicle has the right of way! (whether they actually do or not!) Even though there are painted lines on the road and the occasional stop sign, they are (...)

Stir it up! That’s what it’s all about! Whatever talent or gift you have to share … use it! Even the smallest gift or gesture can make a big difference in someone’s life!

Today our construction crew was once more away to Montrois to continue their two storie church and school project. It was an extra hot day today after the rain last night, and they were feeling the heat! Cool showers and some down time tonight will help them to get some energy back! (...)

It’s safe to say that the only thing we are using shovels for over here is busted up bricks down at the construction site. Mike, Glen and Bisson spent the day in Port Au Prince shopping for supplies. They purchased two toilets, but, most importantly chocolate milk. Jack was willing to pay a handsome price for a tall glass of something sweet, and kissed goodbye $30. We hope it was all worth it Jack and I’m sure the money will be put to good use down here in (...)

Well …. it was ‘go’ day here today! Our first medical clinic was held with our nurses and aides all set up at their stations and ready to greet everyone who came for help. Pastor Charles had distributed close to 100 tickets to people who needed medical attention. There were 5 translators here with the team while they were holding clinic. Having these translators ensured that the patient was correctly diagnosed and that they received the proper (...)
